History and Foundation of Taekwondo
Taekwondo was inaugurated on April 11, 1955, following extensive research and development by its founder, Major General Choi Hong Hi, 9th Dan. Taekwondo is the most popular art in the world and is currently being taught to 5 million students in more than 70 countries.
Tenets of Taekwondo
COURTESY To be polite to one's instructors, seniors, and fellow students.
INTEGRITY To be honest with oneself one must be able to define right from wrong.
PERSEVERANCE To achieve a goal, whether it is a higher grade or any technique, one must never stop trying; one must persevere.
SELF-CONTROL Mastery over one's behavior. Self-Control is a vital component in the maturing process.
INDOMITABLE SPIRIT To show courage when you and your principles are pitted against overwhelming odds.
As a student of Taekwondo I shall observe the tenets of Taekwondo I shall respect the instructors and seniors I shall never misuse Taekwondo I shall be a champion of freedom and justice I shall build a more peaceful world.
